2008 Meet Features Track’s Richest Stakes Schedule, Return of Champion Jockey

LOS ANGELES (July 16, 2008) – TVG, America’s Horseracing Network, announced today extensive on-site coverage, special programming and wagering surrounding the summer meet at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club opening today.

TVG will broadcast live from Del Mar throughout the meet’s opening week beginning today, and every weekend, Friday through Sunday, until the season’s conclusion on Wednesday, September 3. Special programming will include live editions of some of TVG’s most popular shows and exclusive airings of several of the summer’s premier Thoroughbred races.

This year’s season is highlighted by the track’s most prestigious and richest stakes schedule in its history. The lineup includes 31 events worth $7.35 million, including the $1 million Pacific Classic and four Breeder’s Cup “Win and You’re In” races in August. In addition, Del Mar’s opening day will also mark the return of national champion jockey Garrett Gomez to the Southern California circuit. Gomez is the 2007 Eclipse Award rider and top money winner for the past two years and has been based in New York since 2006.

“We are proud to welcome TVG back for the 2008 meet. TVG’s coverage allows fans across the nation to enjoy the excitement and energy of the race season at Del Mar,” said Joe Harper, president and general manager of Del Mar Thoroughbred Club.

Del Mar’s opening day kicks off with the $100,000 Oceanside Stakes on July 16, followed by a weekend lineup that includes the $300,000 San Diego Handicap (Gr. II) on July 19 and the Eddie Read Handicap (Gr. I) on July 20.

“This is going to be yet another great season at Del Mar. The prestigious line-up and high-profile stakes schedule offers a summer of guaranteed entertainment for America’s horseracing fans,” said Tony Allevato, senior vice president and executive producer of TVG.
