OCEANPORT (July 30, 2009) – Monmouth Park and TVG will join forces in the fight against breast cancer by making a $20,000 contribution to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation on Haskell Invitational Day, Sunday, August 2.
In honor of the appearance of superstar filly Rachel Alexandra in the $1.25 million Haskell Invitational, Monmouth Park will contribute $10,000, a portion of the paid gate for the day. The exclusive television broadcast network covering the Haskell, TVG will donate an additional $10,000 toward the fight against breast cancer. In addition, the Komen Foundation will be on-track this Sunday with three different booths located throughout the facility to promote awareness and accept donations.
Jess Jackson, majority owner of Rachel Alexandra who has pledged to give a percentage of the filly’s earnings to the Komen Foundation, said he was delighted by the support of Monmouth Park and TVG.
“This is a rare opportunity for us to use the notoriety of this amazing athlete, her appeal to both men and women, to raise money to fight a disease that steals from all of us,” said Jackson. “If we can turn Rachel Alexandra’s accomplishments on the track into a weapon against cancer and into an inspiration for others, then that will be here greatest achievement.”
Since 1982, Komen for the Cure has invested more than $1.2 billion to fund breast cancer research. The foundation has played a critical role in every major advance in the fight against breast cancer, helping turn millions of breast cancer patients into breast cancer survivors.
