Horse Gambling: The 2007 Del Mar Racing Season

Del Mar is back for the 68th season! Co-founded by Hollywood legend Bing Crosby and Pat O'Brien, Del Mar is as fine a horse gambling atmosphere as you'll find anywhere. The Del Mar Thoroughbred racing season parades to the post for the 68th time beginning Wednesday, July 18 through September 5, with a six-day-a-week schedule. Those seeking to gamble on horses will find a major change in store for the 2007-racing season: a new $9 million synthetic Polytrack racing surface has been installed, replacing the dirt track. Polytrack, an engineered racing surface that consists of silica sand, fibers and recycled materials, has been used with excellent success on racetracks in the UK, and, most recently, in Kentucky and Canada. Polytrack has demonstrated the ability to deliver a safer and more consistent surface for the horses, which helps to avoid severe injuries. The track's Spanish-style architecture and laid-back attitude make Del Mar the annual setting for one of America's premier salutes to the sport, where horses, trainers, jockeys, owners, and fans of horse gambling come together for racing by the sea. The track sits a couple of furlongs from the shimmering blue Pacific Ocean, about 20 miles north of San Diego and 100 miles south of Los Angeles. It all began in 1937 when Bing Crosby and Pat Obrien got together and found a spot in a sleepy town called Del Mar to start a racetrack. The genius of this track lies in its location – a seaside track is perfect for middle of summer weather! Through the years, the track ebbed and flowed with the fortunes of horse gambling. Some of the greatest names in horseracing have graced its turf: Picany, Shoemaker, Wittingham, Longden, Lukas, Cigar, Best Pal. The list goes on… In 1993, a major renovation and expansion made Del Mar an even better place for gambling on horses. Whether it's rubbing elbows with the well-heeled in the Turf Club, or with the sun lovers in their beach chairs down trackside, Del Mar brings a laid-back, fun loving attitude to horse racing. San Diego has put its stamp on horseracing, and horse betting has never been so much fun! To place bets online on Del Mar Racing events, please visit www.TVG.com today.
