Decathlon Stakes at Monmouth Park: This race was a veritable bonanza. Our top choice and Bankroll Play, THIS ONES FOR PHIL (1/1), did the business, doubling our straight $50 win bet. Plus, our suggested $15 exacta returned a handsome $93 when WILDCAT BRIEF (2/1) ran second. The Hendrie (G3) at Woodbine: Even though our top selection, ARIANA D (2/1), ran second, this turned out to be a lucrative race. The suggested $5 exacta of winner EMBUR’S SONG (5/2) and ARIANA D, returned $74.00. Our Bankroll Play of $25 win/place only netted $16.25, but it was still a nice hit early in the day. The Peter Pan (G2) at Belmont Park: This was such a cool, contentious race, but I decided to stand against the top-two choices, which didn’t work out when ALTERNATION (7/2) and ADIOS CHARLIE (3/1) beat our top choice and Bankroll Play, PRIME CUT (8/1). PRIME CUT ran a creditable third, but our Bankroll Play was only for win/place. Jim Murray Handicap (G2) at Hollywood Park: I tried to be a little bit of a wiseguy in this race by keying the second-longest shot on the board, BUENOS DIAS (5/1), in this short field, but instead, my actual top-three selections (but not in order) filled out the trifecta, which paid a generous $14.00 for a $1 wager. Sadly, I didn’t box them. BUENOS DIAS checked in fourth behind ACCLAMATION (7/5), FALCON ROCK (7/2), and HAIMISH HY (5/2).
