THE RACE $175,000 Governors Cup Remington Park Race 8 (Saturday, August 16, 2014: 11:16 p.m./ET; 8:16 p.m./PT) Mile and an eighth on the main track (three-year-olds and up) Quality racing returns to Oklahoma City where eight older horses with close to almost $3 million dollars in career earnings line up against each other. Let’s get right into the analysis, starting from the inside out: #1 CODE WEST was victorious in the Matt Winn (G3) last November but has not won in four starts since. He finished behind ITSMYLUCKYDAY in his past two starts, and that rival came back to run second in the Whitney (G1) two weeks ago. This will be his first start under the care of trainer Boyd Caster. #2 RIGHT TO VOTE will be the early pacesetter. He suffered a tough beat going this distance, when beaten by a neck, in the Cornhusker (G3) to CARVE, who is a multiple graded stakes winner. This son of POLITICAL FORCE has had a good 2014 thus far, winning three of six starts. #3 DONOHARM was a good second in the Lone Star Park Handicap (G3) two starts back while wide on both turns. #4 TEXAS BLING has won his last two races at Lone Star Park and ran a career best 95 Beyer Speed Figure when defeating #8 TEXAS AIR in his last start, albeit against Texas state-breds. Gets tested for class tonight. #5 FOR GREATER GLORY won his last start at 14/1 odds in a second level allowance race at Churchill Downs. Has finished in the money in four of five starts this year at lower levels and is stepping up in class. Worth noting he finished third behind MORENO in the Dwyer (G2) in July, 2013. #6 Z ROCKSTAR has raced at Remington Park 11 times, nine of which resulted in an “in-the-money” finish, but his three-race win streak was snapped last time out when he was a disappointing seventh in a seven-furlong sprint. #7 SUNBEAN is a win machine, having won 10 of 16 career lifetime starts and seven of his last 10 races for a barn that wins with 30 percent of his starters. #8 TEXAS AIR was beaten by a little less than a length by #4 TEXAS BLING in his last start, but will need to further improve to contend for the win. SELECTIONS 1. #7 SUNBEAN – Win machine. 2. #2 RIGHT TO VOTE – Valiant second in sloppy Cornhusker (G3). 3. #6 Z ROCKSTAR – Old pro runs well over this track. LONG SHOT VALUE PLAY: #1 CODE WEST - Finished behind talented ITSMYLUCKYDAY. WAGERING STRATEGY Why mess around when you’re staring at a horse (SUNBEAN) that has an incredible will to win with his only loss in his last seven starts coming at the hands of PALACE MALICE? I’ll keep it simple and make a straight win wager on him. BANKROLL PLAY ($50 Budget) $50 Win: #7 SUNBEAN (Bankroll at -$176.45 after Week Ninety-Four Based on $50 Wagers; +$54.80 last newsletter).
