THE RACE $200,000 Royal Delta (G2) Gulfstream Park Race 4 (Saturday, February 18, 2017: 1:30 p.m./ET; 10:30 a.m./PT) Mile and a sixteenth on the main track (fillies and mares, four-years-old and upward) Last week, ROYAL DELTA passed away while giving birth to her Galileo foal. This Grade 2 event named in honor of the six time Grade I winner and multiple Breeders’ Cup Distaff has six fillies and mares signed on. We’ll start our analysis from the rail: #1 VERVE’S TALE has yet to finish worse than third in nine career starts. That said, it took her eight tries to break her maiden. In the Comely (G3) at Aqueduct, which was her first race against winners and most recent start to date, she defeated LEWIS BAY and scored a 20/1 upset. Holds some sharp works prepping for this race and should be taken seriously. #2 CURLIN’S APPORVAL makes her career debut going two turns. In her last start, she defeated six other rivals in the Hurricane Bertie (G3) sprinting seven furlongs, but was narrowly defeated two starts ago by #5 ESKENFORMONEY in the Rampart (G3), which was a one-turn mile. This gal will need to turn the tables on the aforementioned rival, but she is four-for-six at Gulfstream and that’s enough to mark her down as a contender. #3 MO’ GREEN won a second level allowance race by a neck last time out and now faces Grade 2 company. Her two prior graded stakes tries resulted in double-digit losses and the only time she won racing two turns, she ran on a sloppy track against easy allowance company at Monmouth Park. #4 VENOM GIRL has won four straight races. But the issue is that all four starts have come against bottom level claimers. Now taking this massive bump up in class for her new barn, it appears she might be in too tough. Passing. #5 ESKENFORMONEY freshens for this race after a ¾ length score in the Rampart (G3) over this track last December. She’s knocked heads with some pretty nice runners in the past like GENRE, I’M A CHATTERBOX, and ANGELA RENEE and looks like the class of the field. #6 CABOCLO DO RIO (CHI) has finished well behind #2 CURLIN’S APPROVAL, #3 MO’ GREEN and #5 ESKENFORMONEY in her most recent races. She desperately needs class relief. SELECTIONS 1. #2 CURLIN’S APPROVAL - Quality filly loves this track. 2. #5 ESKENFORMONEY - The one to beat. 3. #1 VERVE’S TALE - Comely (G3) victory was impressive. LONGSHOT VALUE PLAY: #3 MO’ GREEN - Johnny V. hops aboard. WAGERING STRATEGY I’ll box my top two selections in an exacta box. BANKROLL PLAY ($50 Budget) $25 Exacta Box: #2 CURLIN’S APPROVAL and #5 ESKENFORMONEY ($50). (Bankroll at +$963.80 after 2017 Week #3 Based on $50 Wagers; -$158.00 last newsletter).
