An eight-race card at Woodbine will serve as the best racing on the continent on Monday, May 20. It is a holiday in Canada – Victoria Day – and Are You Kidding Me will seek to win his fourth Eclipse Stakes in his sixth consecutive try. The grade 2 race over 1 1/16 miles for older horses is worth $175,000.
#6 Are You Kidding Me (5-2) has not won since last year’s Eclipse, but is multiple stakes placed since that event. He went to the grass at Keeneland for his 2019 debut, finishing ninth, but he has only three career wins on the grass versus nine on Woodbine’s synthetic main track. The son of Run Away and Hide, a staple in the Roger Attfield barn for several years now, was last seen locally when finishing second in the Autumn Stakes (G2) November 3. He worked a strong bullet on May 14, cruising five furlongs in :59.4.
The competition is strong. #4 Third Day (2-1) is coming off a third place effort against graded company at Keeneland. He is trained by Brian Lynch after starting his career with Todd Pletcher. The son of Bernardini will be ridden by Jose Ortiz, in town for the holiday races.
#1 Mr Ritz (GB) (4-1) has not been seen since finishing third in the Ontario Derby (G3) here last October. The Josie Carroll trainee has had two bullet workouts in the last month, both over six furlongs. #3 Souper Tapit (6-1) hails from the red hot Mark Casse barn; in addition to winning the Preakness Stakes over the weekend, they have been sweeping Woodbine stakes left and right. This is the winner of the Sunshine Millions Classic earlier this year, and an allowance race by nine lengths in mid December.
#5 Decorated Soldier (9-2) was ninth in his seasonal bow here going much too short to his liking. The Norm McKnight trainee was a major stakes winner at Presque Isle last September, and won over this trip in the grade 3 Seagram Cup in August. He is three for six over the track.
