Intrepid Heart (10-1) cost $750,000 as a juvenile and went to the barn of trainer Todd Pletcher. The son of Tapit – who sired three Belmont winners - is a half-brother to Belmont Stakes runner-up Commissioner. He was an impressive maiden winner at Oaklawn Park in February, scoring by 7 ¾ lengths. He then wheeled back to take a non-winners event at Keeneland in April, before finishing third as the favorite in the Peter Pan (G3) over this track.
Intrepid Heart is out of the Touch Gold (1997 Belmont winner!) mare Flaming Heart, a stakes winner in her own right. In addition to graded stakes winner and near millionaire Commissioner, she is the dam of grade 3 winner Laugh Track, who earned over half a million dollars and ran second in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint.
Sir Winston (12-1) is by Awesome Again and out of an Afleet Alex (2005 Belmont winner!) mare, La Gran Bailadora. She was a multiple stakes winner of over $330,000; this is her first foal to race. Mark Casse trains, Joel Rosario will ride.
Sir Winston will be making his 10thlifetime start after breaking his maiden at Woodbine and winning the Display Stakes there at the end of last year. He has not yet won in 2019, but ran second in the Peter Pan over this course last out. He rallies from well back and will need speed to develop in front of him. He has been on the board in four of nine starts.
