The Sunday feature at Aqueduct in New York is the $100,000 Rego Park Stakes over 6 ½ furlongs for three-year-old colts and geldings who were bred in New York. 3-1 second choice Convict, who was slated to break from the rail for trainer Gary Contessa, scratched Sunday morning.
#4 Dream Bigger is the even-money choice. Rudy Rodriguez trains the son of Mission Impazible, who is a stakes winner over the course and a two-time stakes winner lifetime. He won at Finger Lakes by almost 11 lengths in September, then won the Notebook Stakes here in November before missing by a nose as the choice here December 14. Manny Franco will ride the $205,000 purchase, who is owned by Repole Stable.
#5 Scilly Cay (3-1) was second in the Notebook Stakes here at 23-1 after breaking his maiden at Belmont Park in October. The Linda Rice-trained son of Fed Biz has never been worse than third in three starts, and has a bullet workout on the Belmont training track January 1 of five furlongs in 1:00.3.
#3 Harris Bay (4-1) is a $170,000 purchase by Carpe Diem trained by John Kimmel. Junior Alvarado will ride the maiden winner, who did that over six panels at Belmont Park in September. He then ran third in the Sleepy Hollow there over a mile, and fourth in the Notebook here. Nedlaw Stable owns.
#2 Notorious Flirt (12-1) rounds out the field. This is Rice’s second entrant and is a recent maiden winner here over this trip December 28. Kendrick Carmouche was aboard that day for the 15-1 upset, and is back aboard. He debuted on grass and may end up there one day, but he has run well enough on the main track to get a shot here.
