$200,000 Inside Information (G2) at Gulfstream Park
Race 9 (Saturday, January 25, 2020: 3:36 p.m./ET; 12:36 p.m./PT)
7-furlongs (fillies and mares aged 4-years-old and upward)

The first leg of the all-stakes Late Pick 4 at Gulfstream Park this Saturday goes as Race 9: the Inside Information (G2) for filly and mare sprinters. Seven of the dozen signed on to race have won at least 45% of their career starts, so this is a salty group as a number of “win machines” clash in what is sure to be a hard-fought victory for whomever emerges on top.

#1 LIZA STAR cuts back a furlong after a one-turn mile victory in the Claiming Crown Glass Slipper Stakes over this track. She faces a tougher group of runners in this race and will have no choice but to use her front-running speed from the rail. There are other quick fillies that could pressure her from the onset, too, which means she’ll need to run hard every step of the way. With that in mind, we know she is going to be very fit cutting back in distance, and eight of her nine lifetime victories have come over this track.

#2 WILDWOOD’S BEAUTY went off as a 2/5 heavy favorite in the City of Ocala Florida Sire Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs and finished second behind undefeated #4 J P’S DELIGHT, who enters back in this race. She must make up about 3-lengths on the aforesaid rival. She has never finished worse than second in 10 starts on dirt, however, and she sports a 3-for-4 record when traveling this 7-furlong distance.

#3 BACCARAT FASHION earned a strong 97 Beyer after romping in a first-level allowance race at Gulfstream Park West three back in October. The aforementioned effort is fast enough to win this race. That said, she has failed to win in a pair of races over this track since the runaway allowance score, and two starts ago she was no match for #11 PINK SANDS in the Rampart (G3). Recent form suggests improvement is needed.

#4 J P’S DELIGHT boasts a perfect 3-for-3 record. After breaking her maiden by daylight while in for a claiming tag, she returned against winners in a Florida-bred allowance and blitzed the competition, winning the race by 6-lengths. Her most recent start, a 2-3/4 length first-place finish in the City of Ocala Florida Sire Stakes, was terrific. The most lightly raced runner in the field gets a taste of graded-stakes company here and, undeniably, this will be the acid test.

#5 BLAMED hasn’t been seen since winning the Royal Delta (G3) while racing one mile over this track last year. Leading up to this race, she rattled off a pair of bullet workouts for trainer Bill Mott, who wins at a 10% clip with his trainees making their first start off a layoff longer than 180 days. She is a win machine, with a 7-for-10 lifetime record, but now may be the time to beat her, coming off a near-year layoff.

#6 NONNA MADELINE makes her second start after a 14-and-a-half-month break for trainer Todd Pletcher. In her first start off the lengthy vacation, this gal went off at 4/5, stumbled at the break, rushed up to set the pace before eventually gathering herself up nicely and pouring it on down the stretch, winning the 7-furlong contest by almost a half-dozen lengths. She steps up from allowance company to this Grade 3 field, which is a testing bump up in class, and she’s unlikely to get a loose lead if she plans on going to the front again. Her last start was impressive, nonetheless, and she merits respect.

#7 SPICED PERFECTION is a versatile mare that has shown the ability to win from on or well off the pace. A Grade 1–winning mare, this gal won the Madison (G1) at Keeneland last year and also finished fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1). The last time we watched her race, she was an easy winner of the Go For Wand (G3) at Aqueduct going a one-turn mile and, this time, she gets back to arguably her best distance of 7-furlongs. The Go For Wand (G3) second-place finisher came back to win the Interborough Stakes at Aqueduct last week, which is a positive. The one to beat.

#8 BRONX BEAUTY was well-beaten in the Sugar Swirl (G3) and has been unable to hit the board in three starts while traveling this specialized 7-furlong distance. If you go back to October of 2018, you’ll find she finished fourth behind next-out Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) winner Shamrock Rose and #5 BLAMED in the Raven Run (G2) at Keeneland. With an 8-for-15 record, this mare likes to win, but she may be at her best going one furlong shorter.

#9 HEAVENHASMYNIKKI removes blinkers for trainer Bob Hess Jr. after a pair of abysmal efforts against tough company in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) and Sugar Swirl (G3) to end her 2019 season. Her last two races are too poor to ignore; passing this time.

#10 A BIT OF BOTH went off favored in the Sugar Swirl (G3) last month and failed to fire her best shot, finishing fifth of nine. If high-percentage trainer Jason Servis has found a quick fix, this filly is in with a shot. She won six races from nine starts in 2019 (though all wins came against allowance or minor stakes company) and has also finished first in four of six lifetime races on the Gulfstream Park main track. Paco Lopez rides; Lopez and Servis win at a wicked high 43% win clip when they work together.

#11 PINK SANDS won the Rampart (G3) going 8-furlongs on this track last month and wheels back a furlong for Hall of Famer Shug McGaughey. She is another who adores the Gulfstream Park dirt, with three wins from four starts over the surface, and she should be sitting off what appears to be a fast and contentious pace. Jose Ortiz rides, which only adds to the appeal. Plenty to like.

#12 OUR SUPER FREAK makes her first start for the Cherie DeVaux barn after a four-month vacation. In her last start, she won the restricted Shine Again Stakes at Laurel Park. Her speed figures indicate she will need to run a career best race.
