Santa Anita Park was asked by the Los Angeles County Health Department to cease racing immediately on March 27, just 30 minutes before post time. The program featured several high class maidens, including the debuting As Time Goes By, an American Pharoah half-sister to Will Take Charge and Take Charge Indy. It is also the same female family as Omaha Beach.

Santa Anita had been one of the few tracks still racing around the world, with other North American tracks still open including Gulfstream Park and Oaklawn Park. Gulfstream’s biggest day of the year is March 28, with 10 stakes on a 14-race card topped by the $750,000 Curlin Florida Derby (G1).

Santa Anita’s biggest day is April 4, with the Santa Anita Derby (G1) meant to head six stakes races. Other tracks with major 2020 Kentucky Derby preps, including Aqueduct and Oaklawn, have already postponed their major prep races. The Kentucky Derby itself was moved to September 5.
