The Grade 1 Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks) at Tokyo Racecourse on Sunday, May 24 has drawn a field of 18 with unbeaten Daring Tact headlining.
The unbeaten daughter of Epiphaneia was very impressive in taking the Oka Sho last out, which was her third win and second stakes score. She is out of a King Kamehameha mare and has already won over both soft and firm ground. Kohei Matsuyama will ride once again.
Des Aisles drew inside. The Deep Impact filly did not debut until March, but followed up that win with a score in the Sweetpea Stakes earlier in May. Her Group 1 winning dam is Avenir Certain, a French filly. Damian Lane will ride.
Cravache d’Or, by Heart’s Cry, has only won once but is always knocking on the door. She has run in four graded stakes, and ran fourth in the Oka Sho. Mirco Demuro will ride the filly, whose female family is that of 2000 Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner Spain.
Ria Amelia will be known to American racing fans, as her dam Ria Antonia was placed first in the 2013 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) after the disqualification of She’s a Tiger. Ria Amelia won her first two starts but then ran sixth in the Grade 1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies in December. Yuga Kawada will ride the daughter of Deep Impact.
Win Marilyn is a daughter of Screen Hero and also a top contender. She is trained by Takahisa Tezuka, and is coming off her third victory in the Sankei Sports Sho Flora Stakes last out over this surface.
The Yushun Himba, which was won two years ago by Almond Eye, is worth US$2.2 million over about 12 furlongs on the turf. Watch and wager on Japanese racing with TVG.
