2019 Sovereign Award Champion Two Year Old Filly Curlin’s Voyage will make her 2020 debut in the $100,000 Star Shoot Stakes at Woodbine Racetrack on Saturday, June 13. The six-furlong contest for sophomore fillies is a stepping stone to the Woodbine Oaks.

Curlin’s Voyage earned her championship award by winning the Ontario Lassie by a head after a slow start. The Josie Carroll trainee by Curlin broke her maiden around two turns here in September, then finished second in the Grade 3 Mazarine but was promoted to first with the disqualification of Skygaze. She had previously lost a pair of stakes even before trying maiden company, proving she was well regarded long before she won.

She will face stiff competition from New York Groove and Owlette. New York Groove has been running in graded company for trainer Michael Trombetta, but was a two-time stakes winner last year, including the Glorious Song over this course. She has won four of six starts, and was unbeaten the first four starts over her career. Rafael Hernandez will ride.

Owlette is trained by Wesley Ward. The daughter of Frac Daddy has made four starts at Woodbine but hasn’t run since November. She won two stakes last year, both for Ontario-breds, and defeated Curlin’s Voyage in the Shady Wells Stakes in July. Jerome Lermyte will ride the filly, who had a bullet work here June 8.

Two Sixty will be making the 10th start of her career. After winning a Florida stakes race impressively in September, the Mark Casse trainee earned her shot at the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) but finished ninth. She came back at Tampa Bay Downs this year to win the Gasparella in January, but has been fifth and ninth in two stakes since then. She shortens up to six furlongs where she has made two starts for a second and a third.

Cool Shadows was fifth in the Ontario Lassie after winning the two-turn Princess Eliabeth in October. She broke her maiden on the grass in September for trainer Stuart Simon. The daughter of Munnings will be ridden by Justin Stein. Turf maiden winner Coach Lori, Take Charge Eh, Ima Beast,Gizmo Flash, and Tara Dawn complete the field.
