While most eyes will be on the 2020 Belmont Stakes Saturday, other stakes races will take place around the country. The $200,000 Wise Dan Stakes (G2) heads the card at Churchill Downs, with a field of 11 set to go 1 1/16-miles on the turf.
#3 Factor This (8-5) heads the field after two graded stakes wins at the Fair Grounds this winter. The son of The Factor is trained by Brad Cox, who has campaigned him to nine wins in 28 starts. Factor This has been top three 16 times, and took the Fair Grounds Stakes (G3) and the Muniz Memorial Classic (G2) in February and March. Shaun Bridgmohan will ride the five-year-old, who has run over this course twice with one second place effort.
#11 Parlor (9-2) runs for Mike Maker. The gelded son of Lonhro is a two-time winner over the track, including a May 23 allowance event where he missed by a neck with a high speed figure after a rough trip. Before that, the six-year-old won an allowance at the Fair Grounds in March. He will be ridden by Tyler Gaffalione from the outside post.
#7 March to the Arch (5-1) is trainer Mark Casse’s representative. The son of Arch was tenth in the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile at Santa Anita on May 25, but he is the defending champion of this race after winning by a neck last year. He has won two of six at the distance, and will have Florent Geroux aboard.
#5 Aquaphobia (6-1) is Maker’s second entrant. The son of Giant’s Causeway is a seven-year-old entire with eight wins and nearly half a million in earnings. He was second in Gulfstream Park’s Sunshine Forever Stakes over this distance last out, after being claimed in January for $62,500. Corey Lanerie will ride.
#6 Ritzy A. P. (20-1) is a longshot, but has been transferred from Dan Blacker to the care of Jack Sisterson and was second by a half-length here on May 21. He defeated fellow runner today Casa Creed in that event, and has been top three in four of six at the distance. His speed figures fit with the field, and he could surprise and hit the board. Just Howard, English Bee, Eons, Emmaus, Casa Creed, and Hembree round out the field. Bet with TVG.com for both Churchill Downs and the Belmont Stakes.
