There are two stakes races on tap Saturday, July 18 at Woodbine Racetrack outside Toronto. The headliner is the $175,000 Royal North Stakes (G2) for female sprinters on the turf course.

#3 Summer Sunday (3-1) is the defending champion in the six-furlong race. She topped a three-race win streak when she scored in the race last year, but hasn’t been able to win since. Trainer Stuart Simon only got two more races out of her last year, as the daughter of Silent Name ran second in the Seaway (G3) and fourth in the Ontario Fashion (G3), then she was off from October until June when she ran third in the Whimsical (G3). All three of those races were on the main track, but turf may be her calling. Rafael Hernandez will ride.

#4 Another Time (5-2) has drawn alongside. Barbara Minshall trains the daughter of Munnings, who was second by a neck in the one-mile Nassau (G2) here June 27. Jerome Lermyte will be aboard once again; the pair won an allowance over 7 ½ furlongs here two back. She has not been worse than second on this course and has relished her switch to grass.

#5 Sister Peacock (7-2) is coming off a sharp win on the synthetic June 13. This is Simon’s second entrant, to be ridden by Emma-Jayne Wilson. This is a stakes winner on the main track and the grass, who has been top three in 10 of her 11 lifetime starts. She worked a bullet on the training track July 10.

#7 Gamble’s Candy (20-1) is a big price despite being a stakes winner at the end of last year. She ran sixth in her comeback race, the Whimsical, despite not having a great trip. Josie Carroll trains the Twirling Candy daughter, who didn’t run well in her only turf try but that was over a year ago and only her second start.

#8 Lady Grace (6-1) rounds out the top contenders. She is coming off a three-length allowance score over this trip for Mark Casse. The $300,000 purchase by Kantharos has won four of 12 starts, and has never been worse than second at the distance. She figures to try to get to the lead. Charmaine’s Mia, Eyeinthesky, Bohemian Bourbon, and Foxxy Belle round out the field. Watch and wager on Woodbine every day with TVG.
