The 6-5 favorite in the $250,000 Canadian Stakes on Saturday, September 12 at Woodbine Racetrack is Cambier Parc. The dual Grade 1-winner has not started in 11 months, but remains a formidable foe over nine rivals going 1 1/8 miles on the grass.
Cambier Parc has not run since winning the Queen Elizabeth II Cup (G1) at Keeneland October 12 of last year. The daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, who is out of Canadian Hall of Fame mare Sealy Hill, also won the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks before that, but has been away from the races. She fired a bullet on August 31 at Saratoga, but is drawn wide and could be beatable with the right pace scenario.
One horse with a shot to head her early is Theodora B. on the rail. The 5-1 shot is coming off a win in the ten-furlong Dance Smartly (G2) here August 15. She has been top three in 13 of 17 lifetime starts for trainer Michael Dickinson, and has run at eight different tracks.
Elizabeth Way is 4-1. The daughter of Frankel won the one-mile Nassau (G2) here in June, then ran third in the Dance Smartly. That ten-furlong contest was probably too far, this 1 1/8-mile distance should suit better. She was a stakes winner at Gulfstream Park earlier this year.
Amalfi Coast (6-1) switches between the synthetic and the turf, but is two for four on this course with a pair of stakes wins here last fall. She was fourth, beaten just over two lengths, in the Nassau two back. Kevin Attard is seeking to win both this and the Queen’s Plate later on the card. Justin Stein will ride.
Another Time is a 12-1 shot but still worth considering. She has a win on this course this year, and the daughter of Munnings can show speed or come from off the pace. Trainer Barbara Minshall is doing very well this year, and could spring an upset here.
