Before betting the $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1), which takes place at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, it is essential to know the pedigrees of the top race contenders.

Knicks Go is by the miracle horse Paynter, a Grade 1 winner who defeated laminitis and has since become a successful stallion. Knicks Go is out of the multiple stakes winning Outflanker mare Kosmo’s Buddy, who had a lengthy 37-race career. The Danzig stallion Outflanker couldn’t win in 10 starts, but has one of the most prolific stallion pedigrees possible, being out of the Alydar mare Lassie’s Lady.

Code of Honor is by Noble Mission (GB), a $2.2 million earning full brother to the great racehorse Frankel. Although not as heralded as his great sibling, Noble Mission won three Group 1 races on the grass. Code of Honor’s graded stakes winning Dixie Union dam Reunited also produced the sharp California sprinter Big League, who was second in the Grade 2 Best Pal at Del Mar.

Tax is by Grade 1-winner Arch, best known as the sire of 2010 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Blame. The female family is pristine, with Tax being out of the winning Giant’s Causeway mare Toll. Her dam, Yell, earned nearly $600,000 with a Grade 2 win at Gulfstream Park in 2003.

Kiss Today Goodbye is by Gulfstream Park Grade 2 winner Cairo Prince, and out of the graded stakes placed Heatseeker mare Savvy Hester. She was a $15,000 yearling that earned over $290,000 on the track.

Mr Freeze is by To Honor and Serve and out of the Tabasco Cat mare Heavenly Cat. She never raced, but went through the Keeneland sales ring three times: $750,000, $485,000, and $350,000. Her other offspring include half-million earner Capitano, graded stakes winner Dilemma, and stakes placed Heavenly Chorus.

Sleepy Eyes Todd is by Paddy O’Prado, who broke his maiden on the grass here at Gulfstream Park in Grade 3 company. He went on to be a Grade 1 winner who ran in the Breeders’ Cup Classic in 2010, finishing fifth. The unraced Wild Rush dam Pledge Mom also produced stakes winner Wildeydsouthernboy.
