The fourth Pegasus World Cup meet gets underway on Saturday January 25, 2020 at Gulfstream Park in Florida.
On the day there are seven stakes races at between $150,000 - $200,000 each to back up the two main events; the $1million Pegasus World Cup Turf and the $3million Pegasus World Cup itself on the dirt track and with such a small amount of history to go on, you’ll need to see some of our picks before making a decision yourself.
Numerous wager types will be made available to you on Pegasus day, the majority of regular horseplayers choosing to go right on the nose with win bets. Win, place and show is still the most popular wager out there then, though exotics are available too.
Whatever bet you choose to make, just keep in mind that pro handicappers and casual fans alike should never put money down on the Pegasus without being fully informed, and that’s why we’re here with our picks!
Betting the two main races is the best way to feel like you’re fully involved and majorly invested in the day at Gulfstream, and even though we have information available on the main contenders to help you make your own mind up, here are some of our picks for the Pegasus World Cup.
|Mucho Gusto||Tax||Higher Power|
|His close form with Roaster (1st) and Maximum Security (2nd), allied with his strong performance in the 1¼-mile Travers Stakes in which he faded late, bearing in mind he gets to go over 1/8 less here, marks him out as a horse that has been underestimated and so even from gate 10 he can put in a proper Grade 1 performance.||His close form with Tacitus last year marks him out as a decent Grade 1 performer, but not a superstar and he’ll need to stake a significant step forward to be beating Mucho Gusto, although the way this race has cut up he may well be the one who can challenge our main pick from an inside gate.||He was undoubtedly flattered by his wide-margin TVG Pacific Classic win last summer and frankly his other form just doesn’t match up to that. He could win, but he’s a bad looking favorite should he reach that position in the market.|
|Mucho Gusto and Tax|
|Mucho Gusto looks solid and may have been underestimated, while Tax could be the one to reach his full potential from an inside gate and that marks these two out against the field.|
With runners now announced for the supported Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Turf too, we also have some selections for that event:
|WITHOUT PAROLE||Mo Forza||Magic Wand|
|A Grade 1 winner in England before being transferred; he wasn’t ready for his Breeders’ Cup assignment but finished off well to take third and will strip much fitter this time.||The Hollywood Derby winner comes in with a solid chance on turf and should be kept in players’ thoughts.||Runner-up in this race last year, it’ll be hard to keep this filly off the board.|
|Without Parole & Mo Forza|
|This distance looks perfect for Without Parole, a horse whose breeders were more excited about than their own Justify who won the Triple Crown! Mo Forza has the quality to be involved too, so is worth adding in.|
