Racing Dates

Almost 70 days of live racing are offered up by Emerald Downs during the year, the meet lasting April through September.  Post times are generally 2PM or 6.30PM and full details of all racing at Emerald will show up right here at TVG.

About Emerald Downs

Emerald Downs in Auburn, Washington, is named for Seattle (the Emerald City) and itself is impressive to look at, the building being a vision in green.

The 167-acre venue is situated between Seattle and Tacoma and has a six level stadium for race goers to see the thoroughbred action in comfort.

Emerald Downs History

A relatively new structure; Emerald Downs only opened up to the public in June of 1996 and went in at the deep end with a 100-day meet running right through November 4.

The track was needed to replace Longacres Racetrack which by then had been closed for four years following 60 years of racing in the area.

In its unique way of operating, Emerald Downs was a Limited Partnership from opening up in ’96 right up to 2015 though in 2002 the land on which the operation stands was purchased for $70million.

Emerald Downs remains a very strong business prospect and continues to offer up regular, quality racing right throughout the year.

Emerald Downs Track Details

Although there is no turf course at Emerald Downs, perhaps ironically given that the lush green grass would complement the whole feel of the place, the dirt track is a good one.  It is made up of coarse sand, geo-textile fabric and washed rock which gives it a great feel.  It is one mile in length with the tote board being in the center of it.

Biggest Races

Although there is a full stakes schedule laid out at Emerald Downs, the biggest race on the calendar is the Longacres Mile Handicap.  The race is a one mile dirt race held in August and is worth a minimum of $200,000.
