From mid-to-late August it gets going again right up until late October, Monday through Wednesday once again with post time at 5PM this time on TVG.

About Harrington Raceway

True to Delaware’s traditions, Harrington Raceway hosts harness racing at its track located right on the Delaware State Fairgrounds.

It is only one mile to downtown Harrington, though the track is only 90 minutes drive from Baltimore and a little more to Washington, DC meaning plenty of out of town support for the track too. Harrington is just 25 minutes from another popular Delaware harness racing track; Dover Downs.

The grandstand at Harrington can accommodate 3,200 people with another 400 given the treatment in the Clubhouse. A casino is also present on site while the facility is used on dark days for concerts and various other non-racing activities.

Harrington Raceway History

Harrington Raceway opened to the public on August 15, 1946 and for decades went from strength to strength as a popular harness racing track.

In line with many other race tracks around the country, harness or otherwise, the track needed a boost in income and got it in 1996 when video lottery machines were introduced on site having been allowed by the Delaware gaming legislation.

The extra revenue gained from casino operations has meant an increase in purse sizes for runners on the track and more opportunities for extra income have been explored in the intervening years by the management.

The track at Harrington was reconstructed just before the 2003 spring meet leading to faster times, something seen as a really positive step by fans.

Harrington Raceway Track Details

The track at Harrington is a standard half-mile dirt oval with a short 440-feet stretch run from the final turn to the wire. Up to eight starters are authorized behind the gate on a track 100 feet wide, the width increasing after the 2003 remodelling.
